VM64
Run Windows, Linux, and macOS on your Mac
VM64 is a virtual machine app for Mac. It can run Windows, Linux, and macOS virtual machines and emulate other CPU architectures.
Requires macOS 12 or later. Works on both Apple silicon and Intel-based Mac computers.
What VM64 can do
Run at near-native speed
When a virtual machine has the same CPU architecture as your Mac, VM64 runs it with virtualization — ARM64 systems on Apple silicon and x86_64 systems on Intel-based Mac computers.
Emulate other CPU architectures
QEMU can emulate more than 30 types of CPUs, including x86, ARM32, MIPS, PowerPC, and RISC-V. Emulating x86 systems on Apple silicon is slower than virtualization.
Create a new Windows virtual machine
The wizard for new virtual machines downloads and installs drivers and guest tools. VM64 turns on Secure Boot and TPM automatically, so you can install Windows 11.
Systems you can install
To install Windows, you need your own license. To install macOS, you need a Mac with Apple silicon.
- Windows 11
- Ubuntu
- Debian
- Fedora
- macOS
- Mac OS 9
- Windows 98
Sharing, snapshots, and automation
Shared clipboard and folders
Copy and paste text between your Mac and a virtual machine, and share folders on your Mac with the virtual machine. To use the shared clipboard, install guest tools first. Sharing with macOS virtual machines requires specific system versions. See the Features page for details.
Snapshots and disposable mode
QEMU virtual machines can save snapshots and return to the saved state at any time. QEMU virtual machines can also run in disposable mode, which discards all changes at shutdown.
Control virtual machines with scripts
Start, stop, and clone virtual machines with Shortcuts, AppleScript, or the command-line tool. After you install guest tools, you can also run commands in QEMU virtual machines.
